The date has been set for out session at HOWARDS STORAGE WORLD in Mt Barker where members will be able to learn the secrets of having a tidy and accessible house.

It’s OK to say “don’t put it down put it away” but it is even more effective when there is somewhere suitable to store “it”.

HOWARDS have the answers and some of our members have taken the opportunity to register their intention to attend on Tuesday 24th March.

Good luck and happy sorting!

2015 has started with a bang as we enrolled 22 new members at our recent Expo and Registration days.

Some of the activities are full and we are running waiting lists with the hope that additional groups may be formed.

Some groups have commenced meeting already while others will kick off further into the month.

The Committee has three new members whose experience and knowledge will be invaluable as we plan for the future.

The President and Secretary are taking advantage of a Governance Course being run by the Alexandrina Council to brush up on meeting skills and the important details required when managing an organisation.

Strathalbyn EXPO

U3A is a mystery acronym to many.  When expanded to “University of the third age” the initial response is “but I have no tertiary qualifications!”  Not a problem.  The only academic requirement is experience from the University of Life which most retirees have in abundance.

U3A is a global organisation which aims to provide educational, physical and creative stimulus to retirees at a nominal administrative cost.  All services are given voluntarily.

The original meaning of the word UNIVERSITY is a community of people who come together to learn from one another and U3A draws on the skills, interests and experiences of members willing to share their knowledge.

The THIRD AGE is the age of active retirement, a time to participate in all the activities put off during the busy working and family rearing years.

The STRATHALBYN EXPO in shop 7 on Dawson Street, Thursday 29th January, 9.30 – 4pm will have displays featuring our activities and members of the committee will be present to provide information and to take membership applications and course registrations.

Please come along!

Hands on Gardening Group Launched

The first meeting of the Strathalbyn U3A ‘Hands on Gardening Group’ was a great success with ten enthusiastic gardeners attending.

We spent time discussing our expectations of the group before plotting out a program for the year that involves meeting once a month  to share skills and techniques.  Each meeting will be hosted by a different member in their garden.

A selection of fruit freshly harvested from Norma’s orchard was taste tested along with a cake featuring fresh pear in the ingredients.

New comers are welcome to join the group just send an email to strathalbynu3a@gmail.com for a copy of the program.
